You can afford London: how to save money in the British capital

Everyone knows that London is expensive. But how to see this city as it is, and not go broke, few know. One of them is a resident and a great lover of London, Konstantin, who has been on hiking trails in the capital of Great Britain for several years already.

With Konstantin you can set off on the trail of Jack the Ripper, take a walk under the windows of the former London mayor Boris Johnson and read the latest story of street art right from the city walls. Here are 10 free or inexpensive ways to enjoy a trip to London.

Walking around London on foot

walking around london

Cost: free of charge

To begin with, London is a pedestrian city of the 80th level. I did not really understand before, when the Londoners frowned, for example, from Dubai and said that it is not walkable – that is, it is impossible to walk there. Now I understand: London is a city where everything is created for a pedestrian. Beautiful long streets, a scattering of unusual cafes, lots of greenery, flowers, parks and even more pubs, shops and people. And everything varied to infinity.

Due to the fact that in London there is a lot of power on the ground, the city should be perceived as a collection of villages. These villages are completely different: there are very different people living here, different industries are milled and different houses are being built. For all these people work their shops, open their cafes and pass their events. That’s why in London everyone will find a favorite area for themselves, where there will be a complete sense of home and cosiness. It should only be looked for.

Therefore, the best thing to do in London is walking, walking and walking. Scour the area around the area, wind up tens of kilometers a day. Quite quickly you will have an intuitive sense of the city. You will cease to be lost and begin to boldly turn off the hiking trails, find atmospheric places and notice what the first few days did not have enough attention.

Look at London from the skyscraper

london view

Cost: free or 2-3 pounds

According to an old tradition, to climb higher and look at the city from a skyscraper costs money. And already in the capital of world capitalism – even more so. In London, it’s generally easy to get caught in tourist traps. These are places where Londoners are almost gone, and tourists are ripped off like a stick.

In London, you do not have to go to the Shard skyscraper. He’s terrible. This is the tallest building in western Europe with a lookout at the top – this is the end of its dignity. Rising to the upper floors costs from 26 to 36 pounds. Above you are waiting for a wooden floor, glare glass and tiny monitors, which give mean information about the city. “Shard” – this is one of those places where in five minutes everything seems to have done, but I do not want to leave, because the pleasure received for 30 pounds obviously does not pull.

Directly opposite the “Shard” is another skyscraper – Walkie Talkie. He was allowed to build in the City, provided that there is a viewing platform at the top, accessible to everyone. Insanely beautiful observation deck with gardens and the truth was opened. And you can get there for free, views are better, and inside this place is many times more interesting. In peak hours – weekends, lunch or dinner – you need to book a place in advance, but it will not cost you anything. By the way, if the site shows that there are no more places for your date, you can always find a free window through the Sky Pod cafe. All that is required of you is to drink good coffee for 2-3 pounds.

To lie in the park and look around the city

london park

Cost: free of charge

Another great way to look at London from a height is to go to one of the emerald hills. Parliament Hill, Primrose Hill and Royal Hill in Greenwich are available for everyone at any time. In summer, you can lie on the grass with a view of the best city on earth, drink coffee or have a picnic. If you’re lucky, you do not even have to run down the hill in the rain. English parks are generally a separate topic. They are picturesque, well-groomed, atmospheric and very cinematic.

When you come to London for the first time, you will hardly miss Hyde Park, Green Park or St. James Park. And I would say that it’s much more interesting and original – Regent’s Park, Hampstead Heath or the same Greenwich Park on the hill. And if you are not too lazy to go to the other end of the city, you can even look at deer in Richmond Park. There are more than 600 of them there. In the spring, when the deer is a little hungry, they can be fed from the hands.

To see London from the second floor of the bus

london bus

Cost: 1.5 pounds per trip

To all who know how to independently travel the world, I always advise you to use public transport. The city opens with a completely different side – you see it through the eyes of the locals. And in London to get from point A to point B on the bus is also because they are two-story.

Separate pleasure – to sit on the “upper deck” of the bus on the first row and in all the windshield to admire the city, which does not know what is being watched. From the second floor, London looks quite different. Unexpected foreshortenings of open places, live scenes with bright characters, past which annoying to pass: I want to see through every town play. Multiply all this in the absence of a driver – and absolutely childlike joy will come back to you from life in a single bus.

In central London, there are many good routes. Buses No. 9, 11, 15, 24 pass through the whole center. Even if you have never been interested in London, 3-5 places on the bus will find out for sure.

Bonus for transport geeks: on routes Nos. 9 and 15 there are still old buses of the 1960s. These are such dinosaurs from the past – heavy, like the irons of the XIX century, and beautiful, like cars of the 40-60’s.

Ride the Thames with the breeze

Cost: 3.90-7.20 pounds depending on the zone

Tourist boats on the Thames go in packs. But a ride on the Thames can be cheaper – on Thames Clippers. These are high-speed boats, part of the city’s transport system. By law, you should be given a seat, which means that you can move quickly to Thames Clipper in London, not only quickly, but also conveniently. Inside the large catamarans there are even coffee shops – imagine just how good it is to rake the Thames well on a fine day, sipping freshly brewed coffee and knowing that you spent half as much as a regular tourist.

See Shakespeare as 400 years ago

Cost: 5 pounds

Theaters in London are beautiful, but it’s not always possible to get a ticket for an interesting modern production. But you can always see Shakespeare a stone’s throw from the Thames. Even if you do not understand a word of English, in the “Globe” it is impossible not to dive into the atmosphere of the XVII century. The theater is built according to the old canons, so the moneybags can sit right on the stage. And I advise you to buy tickets for 5 pounds and enjoy the action standing, surrounded by commoners. The fact that you in the 21st century will be reminded only by planes in the sky above your head – there is no roof in The Globe.

Find an item with a history on the flea market

Cost: from 1 pound

Flea markets are always a bit of a lottery. Sometimes you spend all day there and you will not find anything. But in this lottery you can definitely increase your chances just like in starburst slot free spins that can be found here. First, give up Covent Garden and Notting Hill. Places are good, but antiques there are designed for a mass buyer: either expensive or bad.

If you want to find a real treasure, you’ll have to get up early on Friday morning and go to the ruins of Bermondsey. This flea market near the London Bridge. In contrast to the brethren, this one is designed more for antique shops and the junkies themselves. If you drive to him at 7 am and wind up a couple of laps there, you can find very cool things. My personal achievement is a volume of Strand Magazine in 1893, in which Sherlock was published. That is the original year of publication with illustrations of Sidney Paget for – attention! – 7 pounds.

To peek at Sir John Soun by candlelight

Cost: free of charge

In London, a lot of free museums. On hearing the British, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Museum of Natural History and the Tate Modern Gallery. There are lesser known, but no less beautiful – for example, the Museum of Sir John Soon. This is the house of a British architect and collector of the XIX century, which, according to the will of Sir Soun himself, after his death remained untouched.

The first Tuesday of every month, from 18:00 to 21:00, a candlelit evening is held in the museum. No electricity, only the XIX century, only hardcore. Those who want to admire antique books and old canvases in such an atmosphere are many. Therefore, I advise you to come around 4-5 pm and take turns. Only the first 200 lucky ones will enter.

London Visit Guide in 3 Days

Is it possible to visit London in three days? Below, I propose a useful itinerary for those who plan to lose nothing important but have little time available.

The challenge today is to be able to visit as much as possible of London … in just 3 days. Let’s begin!

If you come for a couple of days traveling to the UK, I recommend buying a UK SIM card. It is possible to get it free before your trip, save on roaming, you are always in touch and you can use useful applications:

Visit London in three days: Yes We Can!

A post shared by Dan Chizhov (@danila_chizhov) on

Thanks to the affordable rates that nowadays it is possible to find, and in its proximity to Spain, this city has become one of the favorite places to take a leap when you only have 3 days available.

In order to make the most of the time available and to enjoy the stay in London, I suggest you an itinerary that will allow you to visit the most interesting places in this beautiful city.

If you are well organized, you wake up early in the morning and make the most of your days, you can safely visit London in just three days.

Before departing, you will need to know about the opening hours of the various attractions you want to visit and which, depending on the day, may vary. In this way, you can better organize the itinerary and eventually change the order of the visits of the first two days of travel.

On the other hand, if you do not mind walking a lot, I think you can see everything without taking the tourist bus, but simply using public transport to reach the area you want to visit.

First day:

A post shared by Naïme Vally ???? (@skude) on

You could start your tour by visiting Hyde Park, one of the city’s most popular parks and one of the closest places to Buckingham Palace. I recommend that you start the tour before 10am, coming down to the Marble Arch subway station, so take a stroll to the park on the south side, at Wellington Arch. Crossing the adjacent park (Green Park), you will arrive directly to Buckingham Palace.

After the change of the guard, through another “lung” in the center of London, St James’s Park, you will reach the Westminster Abbey, where you will be able to safely spend a couple of hours to visit one of the many attractions important in the city.

Once you leave the Abbey, you will be able to continue along the river, where there are two important symbols of the city: The Palace of Westminster and the Big Ben. Once you cross the Westminster Bridge, you will come to the famous London Eye from which you can enjoy the best view of the city. Before you get on the wheel, you can also stop eating something in the area.

After the tour on the London Eye, it will probably be too late so it will be difficult, if not impossible, to access other attractions. At this point, you can take the subway and head for Knightsbridge, where you can visit the famous Harrods, one of the world’s most beautiful and majestic department stores where you can spend a couple of hours. At this point the dinner time will come, so moving to Picadilly Circus can be a good idea. Since, the next day, the tour will start well, but do not do it too late!

Second Day:

In a sense, it was the linguistic missing link.  On #ThisDayinHistory 1799, the Rosetta Stone was found. But how was it found? When Napoleon invaded Egypt in 1798, he brought scholars with him and told them to seize important cultural artifacts for France. It was one of his soldiers, Pierre Bouchard, who discovered the tablet near the town of Rosetta. The irregularly shaped stone contained fragments of passages written in three different scripts: Greek, Egyptian hieroglyphics and Egyptian demotic. The ancient Greek on the stone told archaeologists that it was inscribed by priests to honor the king of Egypt, Ptolemy V, and that the three scripts were all of identical meaning. Which meant that this stone held the key to solving the riddle of hieroglyphics, a written language that had previously been undecipherable. When the British defeated Napoleon in 1801, they took possession of the Rosetta Stone and over the years several scholars made progress with the initial hieroglyphics analysis. It was French Egyptologist Jean-Francois Champollion who ultimately cracked the code and deciphered the hieroglyphics and thus the language and culture of ancient Egypt was suddenly open as never before. The Rosetta Stone has been housed at London’s British Museum since 1802. #RosettaStone

The breeze can begin by visiting the Tower of London. Since this visit will make you much of the morning, I suggest you arrive as soon as possible so you can visit it without any hassle. After knowing all the secrets of the Tower, you can go through the Tower Bridge to reach the South Thames. On the right hand side, you will be able to admire the extravagant City of London and the imposing HMS Belfast warship.

Once you reach the London Bridge metro station, you can easily get to Camden Town where you can admire one of London’s most peculiar neighborhoods. Here you will find numerous shops and markets where abundance of food stalls abounds and where you can stop to enjoy the best oriental dishes, also some pubs and casinos, where you could play poker games etc.

After finishing the tour of this neighborhood, you can head to the Goodge Street subway, from which you can easily reach the British Museum, one of the most acclaimed museums in the world.

Here, you can not visit Rosetta Stone, the section dedicated to Egypt and the Nereide Monument. After the visit, you can head to two of London’s most important commercial streets: Oxford Street and Regent Street. Walking along the streets in this order, you will find yourself at Picadilly Circus, one of the city’s most visited places.

Here you will find a place to dine or, if you like Oriental cuisine, you can walk into the famous Chinatown district where you will find a host of Chinese specialties.

Third Day:

The last day of the tour can begin with the visit of St. Paul’s Cathedral, which is located right near the St.Paul’s metro station, where you can admire the crypt and the dome. If you take the subway and get off at Charing Cross stop, you will reach Trafalgar Square, one of London’s most popular squares. At the top of the square, you will find the imposing neoclassical building that houses the

National Gallery, one of the most important museums in the UK where you can admire for hours the works of art displayed and guarded.

Once you visit the museum, you can also walk to the pretty Covent Garden district, famous for its many shops, theaters and restaurants where you will definitely find a cute place to eat and spend the rest of the day until the moment you probably have to go to the airport.

Although it seems impossible to visit London in 3 days, I can assure you that with a good organization and with the enthusiasm typical of a trip to London, you can make this tour as well as I recommended you to do it.

Known throughout the world as one of the best cities to shop in Europe, London is a fantastic destination for a holiday getaway. From luxury-used luxury shopping, London has everything to do with shopping. In this article, we will highlight for you some of our favorite shopping destinations in London.

We’ve made this ranking so you can easily find the kind of shop you are looking for. Good shopping!

  1. The famous shopping streets of London

London is full of famous shopping streets that are now a landmark in the UK. Probably the most famous of all is Oxford Street, in the West End of London. Oxford Street starts at Marble Arch, at the northeast corner of Hyde Park and continues east to St Giles Circus at the intersection with Tottenham Court Road.

It is the most commercial route in Europe and has more than 300 retail outlets. There are many department stores on Oxford Street and some of them are also leading stores for whole chains. You would need more than one day to visit all Oxford Street stores, so we recommend choosing a couple of stores that you definitely want to visit before going shopping and being overwhelmed by the choices. Some of our favorites are:

The Topshop UK flagship store. The store is on the corner between Oxford Street and Regent Street, and is supposed to be the largest fashion store in the world.

The Selfridge & Co. headquarters department store on Oxford Street and Duke Street. Selfridges has been named the world’s largest warehouse in 2012.

The Primark store in Oxford Street and Park Street. The Irish clothing chain offers fashion at very affordable prices.

The Marks & Spencer tip shop located at the western point of Oxford Street near the Marble Arch. The British retailer contains everything from luxury food to clothing.

In addition to Oxford Street, some of London’s shopping streets worth visiting are Regent Street, Carnaby Street, Kings Road, Knightsbridge and Jermyn Street. 1. Famous London Markets

London is famous for its outdoor markets that can be found throughout the city and Camden Market is one of the most popular. Located in Northwest London, Camden Town, Camden Market has become one of the city’s most visited tourist attractions. The market is made up of many small stalls and shops selling clothing, handicrafts, vintage items and food, tech shops. In one of these markets I was looking for a new mobile phone, but at that moment nobody knew moto x4 release date, so I postponed this till the next my visit to London. Colorful shops near the Regent’s Canal Water make Camden Market a truly unique destination for shopping. During the week, most small stalls are closed, so be sure to come over the weekend for an optimal experience. Watch out for the crowd though: if you arrive on Sunday it is better to take the subway to Chalk Farm or Mornington Crescent station and walk up to Camden Market because Camden Town Station is often partially closed in London because of the high turnout of people.

There are several other excellent markets in London to visit:

The Portobello Road market at Notting Hill is another jewel for tourists. The antique market turns the tranquil Portobello street, with its colorful houses, into a lively market every Saturday.

Borough Market is a large farmers market, offering many fresh products. You can find the market under the arcades of the London Bridge station from Thursday to Saturday.

The Covent Garden Market in Covent Garden is a great option on a rainy day, as it is completely covered. The covered food market is also very easy to reach, as it is right in the center of London city.

  1. The great shopping malls of London

Another great option for a rainy day is to visit one of London’s shopping malls. One of our favorites is Westfield Stratford City, which is located in Stratford East of London, near the Olympic Park. The modern shopping mall opened in 2011 is considered one of the largest shopping malls in Europe. Some of the Westfield Stratford City attractions are a great John Lewis shop, a Marks & Spencer, a great Waitrose supermarket and a large Vue cinema. Also make sure you visit the Olympic Park, where the 2012 Summer Olympics took place, before or after shopping.

Other major shopping malls in London include Westfield London, which is also known for its size and is located in West of Notting Hill, the large Brent Cross shopping center, on the north-west London periphery, and the Whiteleys Shopping Center just to the north Of Kensington Gardens, which offers stores such as H & M, Toys R Us, Vintage Victory, HMV and Odeon Cinema.

Paddington station is among the major railway stations in London. Therefore, if you aren’t planning to pay a visit to these stations, you just need to obtain a 1-day Travelcard for zone 1. Liverpool Street station is among the most important railway stations in London.

The genuine City of London is just one square mile in dimension and comprises the city’s fiscal district. It is just an inspiring town. It’s petrifying to move to some other town particularly whenever you don’t know anyone. Few cities support such a number of individuals residing in remarkable harmony. One particular natural rationale is it is among the most stunning cities on earth. It’s a large city with a large amount of people.

Being an exact diversely-populated multi-cultural nation, Canadians and many London travelers will likely travel to diverse travel destinations not just for company or pleasure, but also to visit family members and friends. Australia was initially peopled with London’s criminals. London is a costly town. It is a unique world metropolis, as much a collection of individual villages and fiefdoms as it is a coherent whole. Tipping in London isn’t really a requirement like it’s in the usa and it’s almost always already calculated into the price of your bill. In this part it’s possible to find all you have to know about travelling into and about London and how to spend less on travel.

London isn’t left behind when it has to do with amazing dishes. It’s easy to get to London. Additionally, London is not hard to adjust to. It is one of the great cities of the world that visitors can experience again and again. It is one of the most visited cities in the world. Choosing London

In addition, there are other re-branded” mobile phone service working with the infrastructure of the cell network operators. Further information regarding travelling around London for visitors are available on TfL’s website. Take a look at their site to understand what’s on.

Nowadays all very good acting agencies have well-designed sites. In addition, there are private businesses, which run schemes to permit commuters to spread the expense of a yearly season ticket for a fee. The marketplace is sure to delight everyone and ought not to be missed. After you have browsed the marketplace and bought what you require, you can create your path to the range of shops and coffee shops on offer. Wembley Market is among the largest Sunday markets in the united kingdom and is situated outside Wembley Stadium. Recently, house prices in the vicinity of London have made a significant leap, which means you’ll without a doubt be delighted to discover you may still find three bedroom homes in this region, priced from around 250,000.

Most very popular attractions provide tours in English and a lot of other languages. It gives tourists a helpful landmark and relaxing ways to go around the city. Many visiting tourists aren’t native English speakers. Unfortunately, tourism can also be a source of issues too, particularly if it isn’t managed correctly. If you intend to make several journeys or visit unique places in the vicinity of London, you could spend less by buying a Travelcard.

The Hidden Treasure of London

There’s also a great collection of restaurants serving exotic cuisines. Very occasionally, three bedroom houses appear in the marketplace for under 200,000 in Edenbridge. A 3 bedroom house in Tunbridge Wells, for instance, may well be more expensive than double the cost of quite a similar house in Chatham. It was not until 1765 that an audio hall was constructed and named `The Lyceum’. There’s also an IMAX theatre inside, which is ideal, but you have to cover the ticket (often there are offers related to this attraction). It’s likewise amazing that you get to visit the museum free of charge. It is possible to go around easily within the zoo because the size is simply enough for a brief tour to look at animals with the kids.
